You can’t turn down a PC game with sixteen different endings! That means you’ll have to do a heck of a lot of playing to get the full scope of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. This game is massive, and we do certainly mean massive! It’s reason’s like this that makes The Witcher 2 enter our Top 10 PC games. Come on, a game with sixteen endings? Maybe it’s even one of the best PC games? Lets find out.
The reason for the massive number of different endings is because the developers have ramped up the games gameplay with extra weapons, extra combat solutions and options and a more robust game overall. They wanted to do this because they not only were concerned with story and character development, but they had to add the extra gear and challenges to make the game catch up to that story content.
Developed by CD Projekt RED, the game is for the PC and Microsoft Xbox 360 platforms. It’s a single-player RPG that is available for download, optical disc or Cloud. It hit the stores on May 17, 2011 and in June the Xbox 360 version was announced as going to be released by the end of 2011.
The story architecture is deep and varied. Not just one story is being told here, but several. The game is sword and sorcery with some science fiction rolled into it. You get to play as a Witcher, a person who has witch powers and enhanced genetics who are like Jedi Knights or something. They’re trained from childhood to battle evil and stuff like that. So right then and there you know you’ve got your work cut out for you.
You play as Geralt of Rivia who is one of the last surviving witchers. It’s obvious from the gameplay we encountered that your primary mission is to use lots of weapons, magic spells, and other things to slash and hack and burn and electrocute your way through armies of soldiers, monsters, and lots of weird forest and castle dwelling creatures.
Depending on which part of the world you live, your version may vary due to sexy content that has raised quite a few eyebrows around the world. It’s reported some of the babes in the game have appeared nude or semi-nude in popular magazines.
All that is just part of the controversial promotion that has made The Witcher 2 a big hit. However, the promo is one thing, the gameplay is another.
So far what has come from this game is challenge. Some players say the combat physics are too tough and complicated, while others say it’s that challenge that brings the game up a level. There’s no room for treading lightly around when you take on the mantle of the heroic Geralt, but he has to face challenges of character too along the way. That’s why the fans and critics agree the story is so robust and immersive that this game isn’t for people who give up easy or want their hands held when danger strikes.
The gameplay has you doing some expected stuff and some highly surprising stuff. The cool part is that when you start your vanquishing of evil doers, you sure make a lot of noise and cause a lot of damage. These villains get all kinds of their butts vanquished by your swordsmanship and magical, genetically enhanced powers.
It’s actually comedic looking at times because they can’t hold up against you once you start whipping out your two swords, and choosing dialogue to say cool stuff while laying waste to evil left and right. Watching one eyed monsters burst into flames when you take out your broadsword and ruin their day. Giant bugs get roasted and toasted too in great sorcery fashion. If you like watching bad guys wriggle in agony as electrical bolts course through their armor then this game is for you.
So we can conclude that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is going to give you a very good run for your money. As far as RPG’s go, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings makes it into our list of the Top 10 PC games of 2011.
