There is probably no bigger PC video game franchise on Earth than the Call of Duty franchise.
It has garnered more news headlines than the national debt. There’s good reason for it too as the games have provided the most realistic combat video game experiences yet. The upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 however, boasts content and controversy, and some celebrity guest voices as well. You can always count on Sledgehammer to provide the series with the top talent in the business.
Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software have teamed up to bring us this latest version due out on November 8, 2011 and here at Top 10 PC Games we can assure you, that we cant wait!
It’s still a first-person shooter with single and multiplayer modes. Platforms are for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. The Call of Duty series has always bought us the fluidity and realism, with photo-realistic graphics that we have come to expect and love. However looking good and playing good are two different things and after some corporate turmoil the game is on track for its expected release. You can bet from the popularity of the last incarnation of this game that made headlines around the world, that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is going to eclipse given the news coming out about it.
The gameplay trailer is astounding. It shows that the player is going to be immersed in as realistic a military experience that virtual reality can provide. You’ll not only be immersed in combat but you’re going to have to do what every soldier has to experience in real life. Endless hours of guard duty, delivering goods and services, KP, waiting around for buddies to get their gear in order and the likes. You’ll even receive letters from home with….. Well….. we don’t want to spoil the surprise so you’ll have to wait and see for yourselves once the game is released!
With this kind of realism you might look at this as a Pentagon simulation instead of a Top PC video game. Well that might be the case except for the goodie addition of a new type of Survival Mode where players will be fighting wave upon wave enemies, where the AI allows far more complexity so that each assault is more difficult. This is worth the battle right then and there! Can you imagine unloading every weapon you have at non stop waves of enemies? That ramps things up quite a bit!
Infinity Ward has made several announcements regarding changes in strategies and perks so expect a more level playing field this time around between players.
As far as the story mode goes, it follows the last game MW2 where the Russian Federation has done their bad deeds against the US and spread their tentacles throughout the world especially in Europe. It is just insane the amount of complexity this game has and how it grows and develops from hand to hand to massive capture and infiltration.
The gameplay is not to be underestimated as the developers have obviously spent so much time creating the AI on a massive scale. It could take you a while to complete this game and if there is any modding to be had for the PC you might not find your friends again for years on end, unless of course they are online on the other end of your headset. Replay-ability value like this certainly will help it enter our Top 10 PC games!
Some of the old characters are back and there’s no telling which new characters are laying in wait to be sprung on players throughout the campaign. To add to the new stuff, it was announced that there would be a social service, sort of like a social networking site for players called “Call of Duty Elite” where your player stats are compared, new content can be accessed, and more goodies to be had. This game and network just won’t end. The new service debuts the same time that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 does so there’s going to be a learning curve going on here.
All in all, this latest incarnation of the Call of Duty franchise is going to be a monster of an experience. One that will challenge other franchises and the way that video games are developed and created. If the new network is successful there will be a new section of cyberspace that is a total encapsulation, a community for players of the series. This is going to be a PC game to watch for sure. Only time will tell if one of the best PC games of all time can make it into our Top 10 PC Games of 2012. We assume it will be based on past experiences but we will have to wait and see.
